The East Africa Press Councils (EAPC) is partnering with the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) to develop a new Executive Curriculum on Government Communication. This programme is designed for senior government officials and executives.
The curriculum will be Pan-African in scope, addressing the evolving dynamics of communication and the impact of technology on governance and citizen engagement. The course will be practical and responsive, equipping leaders with modern communication skills. It will be delivered by industry experts from across the continent.
EAPC Chairperson and Media Council of Kenya CEO David Omwoyo met with ESAMI management in Arusha, Tanzania. ESAMI’s Director of the Business School, Prof. Joseph Mumba, acknowledged the urgent need for a structured training programme to fill the gaps in government communication across Africa.
Mr. Leon Malisa, Director of Executive Education at ESAMI, highlighted that the course will improve service delivery, promote peer learning, and foster stronger collaboration between governments and the media.
Mr. Sandy Banda, Director of Finance, Administration, and Human Resources, also stressed the importance of collaborative research in media and communication.
The two organisations have agreed to create an operational Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide the curriculum’s development and programme implementation. A joint technical team will be established to drive the strategic proposal forward.
ESAMI is a Pan-African management development centre that aims to improve the performance of public, private, civic, and international organisations in Africa. It has 10 member governments: Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
